The 22nd edition of the SCGA Four-Ball Championship begins Monday at Hacienda GC in La Habra Heights. More than 100 players will be competing in 36 holes of four-ball stroke play.
Current SCGA Foursomes champions Dan Sullivan and Mark Miller lead a strong field that includes SCGA Player of the Year Tim Hogarth and former champions including David Bartman/Robert Funk (2006). Other players of interest include 2005 California Amateur Champion Don DuBois, 2006 California Amateur Champion Jordan Nasser, SCGA tournament champions John Pate and Scott McGihon and 2008 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion Jeff Wilson.
Hacienda GC, a Willie Watson masterpiece, was founded in 1920 and has been the site of countless prestigious tournaments. The course record is still held by none other than Tiger Woods, who scored a 62 during the 1994 SCGA Amateur Championship.
Key holes include the 5th hole, a long par 4 that requires deft accuracy from the tee, the 10th hole, which is a short par 5 that is one of the few true birdie holes on the course and the 16th hole, an extremely challenging par 3 that plays into the prevailing wind and surrounded by many avenues of trouble. The finishing hole is a straightforward but long par 4 that could very well decide the championship.
