Patrick Cantlay is still just an amateur, but over the past year and a half his resume looks similar to that of any professional golfer. This week, he will appear in his second-straight U.S. Open, where he looks to finish as the low amateur once again. We recently checked in with Patrick's family, friends, teammates and coaches to learn a little more about the 20-year-old.
The UCLA sophomore may seem calm and collected, but according to his friends Patrick is one of the most competitive people alive. And his competitive spirit doesn't just live on the golf course. Patrick is fiercly competitive when it comes to playing Monopoly, Super Smash Brothers, Ping Pong and other games with his peers.
A Tarantino Aficionado
Patrick's favorite movies include a number of Quentin Tarantino flicks, especially Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.
More than just Golf
Patrick doesn't just beat up his friends and family on the golf course. He's also an exceptionally good ping pong player and bowler.
Patrick chose to play golf and attend college at UCLA, despite the fact that both of his parents were USC Trojans. According to Patrick, "Westwood is better than South Central, that's for sure. I like everything about UCLA. It's a great place to go to school."
Fan of the Classics
When it comes to music, Patrick is all about classic rock. His favorite group is Led Zeppelin.
