SWEET SHOTS

Underage Dept.: Brandan Pita aced the 154-yard fourth hole at Twin Lakes Golf Course; not only is he just 11 years old, but according to the course he’s the first one to report a hole-in-one at its facility. At Birch Hills, 11-year-old Brian Gross, son of USGA Green Section Southwest Director Pat Gross, collected his first hole-in-one on the 110-yard seventh hole with his 7-iron (the same number on his baseball jersey). According to dad Pat, “Brian is fond of bragging about the fact that he made his first hole-in-one six years earlier than his dad made one,” he said. “Let’s see when he gets his second…”

Albatross Dept.: Brandon Matchett, a 16-year-old Tehachapi High School golfer, double-eagled the par-5 483-yard fifth hole at Oak Tree CC, using his driver and 7-iron. Pete Reeves double-eagled the 18th hole at Indian Springs, a 204-yard shot with his 5-iron, and Patrick Russell used driver and 4-iron from 210 yard out at Sterling Hills to secure an albatross on the 510-yard par-5 fourth.

That’s Impressive Dept.: When Joe Hart aced Rancho Park Par 3 Golf Course’s 100-yard first hole with his gap wedge, it was his fifth career ace on the course, which he plays at least once a week. He’s also holed out numbers 3, 7, 8 and 9. David Kuzmich also earned an impressive feat at Castle Creek when he only collected two putts on four par 4s. He chipped in twice and putted twice. At Paradise Knolls, Chad Azevedo aced a par-4 hole, the 299-yard 10th with his driver.
