SCGA Member Jeff Burda, who after winning the 34th SCGA Senior Amateur Championship earlier this year became the first person ever to win all three major California state senior amateur championships (SCGA, NCGA and California state), is making quick work of his competition at the USGA Senior Amateur this week, today advancing to the quarterfinals.
The tournament, which is being held at Kinloch GC in Virginia, runs through Thursday. Burda is the only Californian left in the field.
After finishing tied for 21st after the stroke play portion of the event, posting rounds of 71 and 76 on the par-72 course, Burda has made it look easy thus far in match play. Winning his Round of 64 match 3 and 2, Burda wasted no time Tuesday, taking out Michael Booker 7 and 5 in the Round of 32 and then winning 6 and 4 against Richard Marlowe of Ohio in the Round of 16. He will face either Chip Lutz or Hunter Nelson in his quarterfinal match at 6:40 a.m. PT tomorrow.
Burda is a member of PGA West.
