Shandin Hills Tournament

On February 16, 2008, we played a tournament at Shandin Hills in San Bernardino. The course was in ok shape except some fairways were pretty thin and the greens were bumpy. But we were very lucky with the weather. It was a beautiful day without much wind. A lot better than last year when some of the real golfers played in off and on heavy rain. The results are listed under tournament results in this web site. We, unfortunately, had some disqualifications due to an unsigned scorecard. Only the scorer signed the card. None of the other three players signed the card as required by the rules. I hate to be the bad guy, but The rules were quite clear and if you don't check your card and attest to your hole by hole score, you will be disqualified.

HOSSMAN -

The unspoken rules of golf make the game more fun. Golf is blessed with players who are typically courteous and honest. Thus, etiquette is an integral part of the game - with its own section in the Rules of Golf. Courtesy for others on the golf course is the basis for proper etiquette. If you are conscious of where to stand, when to speak and how to move, you most likely will not be disruptive to the players in your group. Try not to stand too close to the ball being played by another golfer. That includes standing directly behind or at an angle from which you may be seen in the players peripheral vision. Give the golfer preparing to play the stroke space to select a club, take a practice swing and make a stroke at the ball. You should stand at a reasonable distance to either side of the ball being played. Care of the golf course is also an important maintenance practice, as well as a common courtesy to others. Replace divots, rake bunkers, repair ball marks, and tap down spike marks. Such actions should become a habit. A repaired ball mark will heal much more quickly than an unrepaired mark, which can take up to a week to heal. Its always a good practice to repair your own ball mark and at least one other mark on every putting green. Always be ready to play when its your turn. Ready to Play means that you have determined your yardage, monitored the wind direction, checked the hole location and selected a club. This process should not begin when its your turn to play; it should happen beforehand! On the putting green, mark, lift, clean and replace your ball quickly. Repair ball marks, remove loose impediments and check your line of putt while others in your group are doing the same. Help other players in your group locate yardage markers, search for balls and rake bunkers. A conscious effort to speed up play and develop an attitude of awareness by all golfers is important and will have a positive impact on the game. Do your part and encourage others to do the same in every round. - Hossman
