Cantlay receives first sponsor exemption to Frys.com Open

August 23, 3011 - The SCGA's Patrick Cantlay has just received the first sponsor exemption into the 2011 Frys.com Open, it was announced today. The tournament is scheduled to be held Oct. 3-9 at CordeValle in San Martin, CA., the same site where Cantlay won the 2010 Gifford Collegiate with scores of 67, 69 and 71.

“Patrick Cantlay is a very talented young up-and-comer who is quickly making a name for himself both at UCLA and as an amateur on the PGA TOUR,” said Tournament Director Ian Knight. ” He has played in a total of four PGA TOUR events, making the cut and finishing in the top 25 in each. He is a great addition to our field.”

Cantlay has put together a phenominal summer, including earning low amateur honors at the U.S. Open and winning the SCGA Amateur Championship. He is currently playing in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Erin Hills.

The Frys.com Open is part of the PGA TOUR’s Fall Series and features a full-field (132 players). The four-day tournament has a $5 million purse and $900,000 payout to the winner.
