Tim Hogarth wins Championship with a 211

MISSION VIEJO, April 24 -- Tim Hogarth came into the 24th Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Mid-Amateur Championship at Mission Viejo Country Club feeling confident ... with good reason, it turned out.  The 40-year-old Northridge resident fired a 2-under-par in today's final round to win his second SCGA Mid-Amateur title by a record eight shots.

Twenty-four years of Mid-Am golf

Mark Johnson. John Pate. Tim Hogarth. Robert Funk. Some of the Southland's most talented amateur golfers have come through the ranks of the SCGA and secured a spot in the history books as the best mid-amateur champions of their time.

Now, 84 players ages 25 and older and with indexes of 5.4 and below will try their hands (and their clubs) at the chance to be the 25th SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion, April 23 and 24 at Mission Viejo Country Club, as Funk, also the 2006 Trans-Miss Mid-Amateur champion, will attempt to defend the title he earned last year on his home course, Bear Creek Golf Club.

Also joining Funk is David Bartman of Los Angeles, who teamed up with Funk to win the 2006 SCGA Four-Ball and 2007 SCGA Foursomes championships; three-time SCGA Amateur champion Scott McGihon of Bermuda Dunes; Jason Pridmore of Ventura, winner of the recent amateurgolf.com California Mid-Amateur; 2005 California Amateur champion Don DuBois of Newport Beach; and four-time SCGA Amateur champion Craig Steinberg of Oak Park.
