UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIF. (Nov. 13, 2014) – Alan Frank, a retired accountant and member of Oakmont Country Club, was elected president of the Southern California Golf Association at its Annual Meeting, held Thursday morning in Universal City. He succeeds Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club and Torrey Pines Men’s Golf Club member Ken Bien.

“When looking out at this crowd, I’m truly humbled,” said Frank. “All of us have been touched by golf in some way. We have a shared passion and you have my commitment to do my best to help and support you and the game of golf."

Joining Immediate Past President Bien on the SCGA Executive Committee are Vice President John Morello of St. Mark Golf Club, Secretary Keenan Barber of Mission Hills Country Club and Treasurer Jon Bilger of La Jolla Country Club.

Honored at the Annual Meeting were:

·Dr. Bill Haney of La Jolla Country Club, who received the Jim House Award, which recognizes the work of an exceptional SCGA volunteer.

·Mike Huck, who received the Lynn Smith Award, which honors outstanding contributors and service to amateur golf in Southern California.

·Larry Sheldrup of Fallbrook Golf Club, who was named the winner of the Newell Pinch Delegate Award for his service working as an SCGA ambassador.

·Big Canyon Country Club received the John Argue Founder’s Award, established to honor SCGA Youth on Course Founder and former SCGA President, John C. Argue. Big Canyon has been a longtime supporter of Youth on Course and this year had the organization as the beneficiary of the U.S. Sr. Amateur Championship, held at Big Canyon earlier this year. The club will present Youth on Course with a $100,000 donation, which was raised on top of tournament expenses.

·Lakeside Golf Club was honored with The President’s Award, annually given to an SCGA member or member club who's dedicated to furthering the mission of SCGA Youth on Course.

Tim Hogarth earned the SCGA Player of the Year award, an honor he receives for the third time in his decorated career. His 2014 season included second-place finishes at both the SCGA Amateur Championship and SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship as well as winning the 2013 SCGA Tournament of Club Champions.

"I play in every SCGA event I can," said Hogarth. "I do so because the SCGA knows how to put on an excellent tournament."
