For the Love of the Game

As part of the SCGA's Membership Season, we are checking in with SCGA Members and learning what they find most valuable about their SCGA Membership. Below is Part 3 of our Member Spotlight series.

Name: Leroy Salvato
Rounds of Golf this year: 215

Over 200 rounds so far this year! Can you briefly explain your love for the game? What keeps you going out there?
I love the game. You are outside, either playing with friends or making new friends. I play about half my rounds with my older brother. And even at the age of 67, I feel I can still get better even though I probably won't. I didn't really get into golfing until my early 40's, maybe 45.

It looks like you play the majority of your rounds on your home course of Silver Lakes CC. What do you like about it? Do you get to many other courses?
What I like about my home course is that it has 27 holes that are kept up very nicely.  Most of all, it is unlimited golf for our association fees.  The only time I golf at other courses is when I am on vacation or when they close our course for maintenance.  I do golf the local courses in the Cerritos, Calif. area when our course is closed.  I also occassionally golf at La Mirada, Lakewood CC, Diamond Bar and Dad Millers.  It is hard to pay for golf though when you can golf for free!

How long have you been an SCGA member?
I have been an SCGA member for about 14 years.

What is your favorite part of your SCGA Membership?
Having a Handicap Index and being able to compete against others.

What do you see as the benefits of having a Handicap Index?
The benefits of having a Handicap Index is that you can play against anyone at even level. It lets you know how you are doing and allows you to get into organized golf clubs and compete with others.

Do you typically golf with the same group?
I usually golf with the same group. We try to get 4-5 people in our group, each day.  We have about ten regulars.

What is your profession?
I am a retired real estate agent.
