16-year-old SCGA Member Beau Hossler shot an impressive 66 Tuesday on the Blue Mound Golf & Country Club course to earn the No. 3 seed in the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur Championship.
With play being stopped for more than three hours Tuesday due to thunderstorms, stroke play had to be concluded Wednesday morning, pushing back all starting times for the Round of 64. Darkness then halted play midway through the round.
Hossler was all square with David Denlinger of Lancaster, Pa. through three holes when play was stopped. They will conclude their match Thursday morning at 7:15 local time.
SCGA Amateur Champion Patrick Cantlay also advanced to match play, earning a No. 37 seed. He was 4 up through 11 holes when darkness fell, and will look to finish off Max Scodro of Chicago when play continues Thursday.
The SCGA's Kevin Dougherty, David Kim, and Todd Baek also advanced to match play. None were able to finish their Round of 64 matches before play was stopped, with Dougherty finding himself down 1 to Russell Henley, a winner on the Nationwide Tour this past spring, through 12 holes. Baek is 1 up through 14 holes while Kim is 3 down through 11.
There will be six rounds of match play, with the championship scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Sunday.
