The Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles hosted a Business Development Through Golf workshop at The Lakes in El Segundo this past weekend and invited SCGA Foundation staff to attend and speak. Former intern benefits from SCGA experience
Former SCGA Foundation Intern Chris Pope took the experiences he learned with the Foundation and used them to further advance his career. Not only has he recently been promoted at his current job working with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, but he also received his graduate degree in sports management, where he focused his capstone project on affordable golf for youth in Southern California, something he became familiar with when working with the Foundation. Chino Hills girls golf team gives back
The SCGA Foundation hosted a Youth on Course clinic at Brea Creek GC last Thursday, and was thrilled to have more than 30 juniors in attendance. With school beginning soon and golf season on the horizon, the Chino Hills Huskies girl’s golf team, and its Head Coach Keane Misawa, ventured to Brea to be a part of the clinic. Beginning his third year and coming off a 6-4 season where they missed the league championship by just five strokes, Misawa has high expectations for his team. 13-year-old benefits from Foundation programs
Kasey recently competed in the Western States Golf Association’s 32nd annual Alan Bennett Championship in Phoenix, where she won the two-day event. In addition to winning the championship (which automatically qualifies her for next year’s Junior PGA Championship), Kasey took home the citizenship award. Candidates were nominated by their golf site coordinator and then had to participate in an interview process that asked about the junior's past accomplishments and what their dreams and hopes were for the future. “It was a great experience, but without the SCGA Foundation I would not have been successful in the interview," said Kasey. Scholar shares story at 2nd Annual Scholar Dinner
It is safe to say that golf brought Roberto Rosas out of his shell. As an 11 year old, Rosas moved to San Diego from Tecate, Mexico to live with his mother, who had already spent six years in California working to support her six children back in Mexico. He didn't know English, which made the transition for the sixth grader tough. Click here to read more.
Juniors play The Los Angeles Country Club
The Los Angeles CC hosted the SCGA Foundation for a G.A.M.E. Day Monday, marking the second consecutive year the club has hosted the event. This year, 16 junior golfers joined 16 LACC members for a friendly round of golf and to enjoy one of the area's finest country clubs. Read more here.

Scholar completes first successful season as collegiate golfer
Wally Gonzalez is passionate about golf. Not only does the rising University of Hartford sophomore play for the Hawks golf team, but in his spare time while at school in Connecticut, Gonzalez also volunteers with the local First Tee program where he helps teach kids about the positive impact golf can make in their lives. G.A.M.E. Club season kicks off
The SCGA Foundation held its second annual G.A.M.E. Kickoff event at Maggie Hathaway GC in Los Angeles on Saturday. More than 100 young golfers from organizations such as the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim and The First Tee of South Los Angeles who are enrolled in Youth on Course participated in a putting contest, closest to the pin hole, and target golf to kick off this year's G.A.M.E. Youth on Course valued by many
14-year-old Texie Petchel stepped up to the first tee during the recent fresh&easy-Kraft Foods Legacy Junior Challenge at Mission Hills CC, proudly wearing her SCGA Foundation golf shirt. Many of the other girls involved in the event wore shirts donned with golf clothing company logos, but it made sense for Texie to be sporting the SCGA Foundation’s brand. Read more here.

Youth enjoy mentoring and golf at Big Canyon

SCGA Foundation places second in Northern Trust Open's TICKETS Fore CHARITY
The SCGA Foundation generated $27,350 through its Northern Trust Open ticket sales, good enough for second place in the TICKETS Fore CHARITY program, and was therefore awarded an additional $6,000 from the bonus pool. Read more here.

Annual Tournament Raises Record Amount
The SCGA Foundation hosted its annual golf tournament Monday at Mission Viejo CC, raising more than $120,000 for a variety of the organization’s programs. The day, which was presented by Callaway Golf, included golf for the tournament’s 96 participants and reception, which included guest speaker Mark O’Meara. Read more.

Rancho Park GC gives back to junior golf
Since it's creation in 1957, the George Von Elm Memorial Tournament has raised more than $25,000 to support junior golf in Southern California. This year's tournament, held last week, raised more than $5,000, a portion of which goes to the SCGA Foundation. Read more.
Inductee Sifford and Foundation Juniors meet at Hall of Fame Reception
Charlie Sifford, who broke the PGA's color barrier in the early 1960s, had the opportunity Monday at Lakeside GC to speak with young men whose future he helped shape. In a speech given to the more than 90 attendees at the event, SCGA Foundation junior Trey Woods said, "Golf has changed my life dramatically," a statement that could not have been made without the determination and patience Sifford displayed decades ago. SCGA Foundation Executive Director Kevin Gigax spoke to representatives from First Tee chapters from Southern California and Arizona. Couples Getaway Raises $14,000 for SCGA Foundation
Forty-five couples joined the SCGA Foundation at Terranea Resort on Friday for the second annual Couples Golf Getaway. New Opportunities for Youth through G.A.M.E.
More than 70 juniors, parents, scholars, program leaders, and volunteers celebrated the official kickoff of the Foundation’s G.A.M.E. Club program last week. The event was held at Maggie Hathaway GC in South Los Angeles and featured a BBQ, music, golf contests, teambuilding and presentations by youth leaders. The juniors in this program have been individually nominated to participate in this pilot program based on their continual involvement in both golf and education with the SCGA Foundation as well as a golf and life skills based junior program.

Chubb Charity Challenge raises more than $1,400 for SCGA Foundation
The 2011 Los Angeles Chubb Charity Challenge was held last week at Hacienda CC with 13 teams competing in a 2 Low Net format tournament. Teams competed to earn money for their respective charities, with the winning team set to advance to the final round at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples, FL where they will compete for a share of over $560,000.
The SCGA Foundation competed in the event and despite not winning, walked away with $1,450 to support the education and character development of Southern California youth through golf.
