SCGA's Beau Hossler shoots 71 Thursday at AT&T National
SCGA member Beau Hossler showed that his recent U.S. Open performance was no fluke, shooting an even par round of 71 to open his stint at the AT&T National. The 17-year-old carded four birdies on the day, but coupled that with four bogeys. He three-putted on 18 from 25 feet to just miss an under-par round.
Originally scheduled to play in the California Amateur Championship at La Cumbre CC this week, Hossler received an exemption into the PGA Tour event late last week.
The tournament is being held at Congressional Country Club, where Hossler played in his first U.S. Open in 2011, failing to make the cut. He currently sits in a tie for 23rd, and will tee of tomorrow at 10:52 a.m. PT. Jordan Spieth is the only other amateur in the field, and he shot a 4-over par 75.
Former SCGA member Patrick Cantlay, who decided to forego his amateur status earlier this month, finished the round at 1-over par 72, good enough for T30.
